Full-text transcript of the review of The Intruder:
[00:00:00] Intruder’s is a home invasion movie, and unfortunately, I can’t talk too much about it without spoiling the main spin of the movie, so I’m not I’m going to kind of dance around it because if that part gets ruined, it does take a lot of the punch out of the movie. So thankfully, I didn’t see the trailer. I didn’t know anything about the movie, really, aside from the fact that I saw the poster and I thought the poster looked really neat, I’m going to go over just the basics. There’s a girl who’s living with her brother in this gigantic house and he’s dying of cancer and she’s been taking care of him for the past 10 years. Now, in those 10 years, she has not set foot outside and has become agoraphobic. Now, if you don’t know what agoraphobic is, that’s somebody who is afraid to go outside. There’s varying degrees of it. You have some people that can go outside, but they can only go so far. They’ll only be able to travel to maybe the edge of their property or the edge of town or something. But in this case, she’s one of the more extreme ones where she just cannot leave the house, her brother dies and leaves her this massive inheritance. Unfortunately, some no good nicks. Find out about this. They break into the house to steal the money. But she, of course, never left the house. So she’s in there. And it’s kind of a cat and mouse thing. She’s running around the house and they’re chasing after trying to get her to find out where the money is.
[00:01:29] And that’s as far as I can go without spoiling it. Overall, I liked it. I thought the the lead girl and the lead bad guy both did a really good job. The acting was good. There was a decent amount of blood and guts. It was a lower budgeted film, but it didn’t particularly feel cheap. I didn’t feel like they cut any corners. Also, the house was so big that it wasn’t just the same environments over and over again actually had a pretty wide variety of locations, even though 90 percent of the film took place in this one house. The unfortunate thing was they had this really unique angle that they used that was very effective. But then there were a lot of dumb moments. There was this oh, that’s really cool. I didn’t expect that. And then, oh, my God, why are you doing that? That is so stupid. Essentially, the lead actress would put herself in dangerous situations when she didn’t have to bother them. Let me when you see the movie, it’ll make more sense. But it was like, OK, this is going on. Why the hell are you doing that? Overall, it wasn’t so much a unique horror film as it was a melding of two different types of horror film. There was the home invasion horror film and the other one where if I say what it is, it’ll spoil it intruder’s. I liked it. I think it’s worth a rent.
