Full text transcript of the film review of It Chapter Two:

It’s been a few years since I’ve gotten to talk about the ancient cosmic evil clown known as penny wise. This is it. Don’t get scared now. Chapter two takes place twenty seven years after the first encounter with the Losers Club. And it now is adults who must return to Dary and vanquish evil for two hours and 50 minutes. This movie’s very long. Hey, guys, how are you? So I was a huge fan of it. Chapter one and going into the sequel, I was super hyped because the last time I saw a movie called it Chapter two, which came out in 1990, it went something like this right here. Would you like the nineteen ninety made for TV movie, the first part’s way better than the second part, and that’s how I feel about this movie. Now, before we dive deeper into the review, I want to let you guys know that this is a movie review. This is just my experience I had with the movie. This is based on the novel. I never read the novel. It’s this thick. Once I held the book when I was like 15 years old, I thought about reading it instead of my shelf for about six months. Then I had like eight dollars in overdue library fees. That’s another story for another time. But my point is, just because something happens in a novel doesn’t necessarily mean it translates well to a film.

And very quickly, because YouTube is ran by evil clowns. This video is sponsored by Surf Shahak VPN. And one of the best things about this movie is the cast of actors that they got to play the Adult Losers Club. I don’t think you could really ask for a better group of actors. Now, my model these days is if James McAvoy is in a movie, I will watch that movie. And since it’s James McAvoy, he can do no wrong. I really thought he would have had a much, much larger role in this film than he does. And one small observation since his character in the It film has a stutter, at times he sort of had a little bit of a headwind thing going on from the movie Split the Creepy Clown coming I Want a Hot Dog. I also found Jessica Chastain very compelling as adult Beverly. But the one thing I notice about her character is when we catch up to her as an adult, her husband is easily ten times worse than penny wise. It’s like, come on, Beverly, how did you ever marry that guy? He’s a monster.

But that whole storyline abruptly ends. And then we spend the next 30 minutes catching up to the adult version of the Losers Club. And for some odd reason, they’re all very successful. Each and every single one of them has a very successful job. And maybe I’m just nit picking. But why can’t one of them be a pizza delivery driver, huh? I could I could relate to that. I did that for many years after college. Huh. And without YouTube, I’d probably still be doing that. So think of you for watching. One of the best aspects about this movie revolve around Bill Hader, who plays an adult version of Richie, and he grew up to be a standup comedian, which is a little bit on the nose, if you ask me. But he adds the most levity and humor to this movie. And I feel like a lot of his scenes with the other character of Eddie, where they have banter back and forth and there’s a lot of mom jokes with some of the best stuff in the film. And that’s one of my biggest positives I can give with it. Chapter two, the movie has a lot of levity and compared to other horror films, the comedy in this movie is funny. It’s one of the focal points of the film that really stands out for me now. At first, getting reacquainted with the Adult Losers Club is really entertaining.

I like seeing them all together, the camaraderie, the banter back and forth. And when all these characters are on screen together, it’s some really good stuff. But the movie doesn’t want that. And once again, if this happens in the book, please don’t hate me. I’m just judging the movie for what it is. It could be a much better version in the book than it was in the movie. So it’s at this point in the movie where the script separates all the characters, they have them go off on their own journeys and their own storylines to fetch tokens for the next two hours. And this is where the movie gets a little bit repetitive because you have one storyline with one character for ten minutes, then you have another one for ten minutes, another one for ten minutes, another one for twenty minutes. And in between all that, you have flashbacks of them as kids. And for some odd reason they felt the need to have all the characters go off on their own to face their own fears. But I thought we already did that in the first movie. And I also thought that they learn in the first movie that the power comes with the numbers when they’re a group together. Nothing bad can happen, but they completely just toss all that out the window in it. Chapter two. Well, with all that said, some of the storylines that they embark on are very entertaining and horrifying.

I think my favorite was Beverley’s storyline, where she goes to visit an old lady in her old apartment building, which you might have seen in the trailer. But yeah, get ready for more Blu. Also, another very large portion of this film are flashbacks in the 1980s where you have the kid version of the Losers Club having more encounters with the character Pennywise that you didn’t really get to see in Chapter one. Some of them are pretty good. Others just feel like filler for the movie to go two hours and fifty minutes, which was completely unnecessary. Now, for me, one of the worst parts about this film is the adult version of Henry Bowers is completely and totally insane now, and it just didn’t work. His character just felt like a waste of screen time. And I thought his performance could have been a bit more subtle to be more creepy and terrifying. I honestly think the kid version of Henry Bowers was much more terrifying than the adult insane version. And much like in Chapter one, I will say one of my favorite parts about this film was Bill’s guards. Guards take on Pennywise, that creepy clown who likes to murder children. And just about every scene with Pennywise in it is highly entertaining. When it’s Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise, sometimes there’s an overuse of CG when Pennywise turns into a creepy, weird creature and it’s at times like this, it sort of takes you out of the movie because it is so CG heavy and some of these effects are hit or miss.

Now let’s talk about some of the biggest negatives I had with it. Chapter two. I think the biggest issue with this film is the adult version of the Losers Club. It feels much less compelling than the kid version did in the first film. It Chapter one. And that was a shock for me, because with a cast like this, there’s almost no excuse for that other than poor script writing. To sum it up, I felt like there was a lot of potential, but they didn’t quite execute it as well as they could. But my. Biggest issue with this movie is it didn’t need to be three hours long. Now, hear me out for a second. I don’t mind a long film that’s immersive and put you on the edge of your seat, but it’s chapter two sort of fails to do that in chapter two, fills up the majority of the runtime with information you already know. It essentially recreates it chapter one in different ways and puts into this movie. Now, let’s talk about the ending to this movie. And no worries, no spoilers. But there is a running gag throughout this film with Bill’s character, who’s a writer, and all the other actors make fun of him because the endings to his novels, they suck.

Maybe that’s a Stephen King joke that was in the novel, or they were just trying to foreshadow the ending to this movie and get audience members prepared and to not be let down. But the ending to this movie, it sort of feels like it never wants to end. But I will say this. There’s a very unintentionally funny scene with Penny Wise right at the end of the movie. No one else left in the theater except for me. Maybe I’m just a weirdo in chapter one is by far the superior film of the two. This is an OK sequel. It’s more or less what I thought it would be, but it does get very repetitive. They repeat a lot of the information that you already know and it’s unnecessary to tell you as an audience member. All this information five times over and over again. Well, there’s some very fun sequences throughout this film that I really enjoyed. But the problem is they’re stuck in a movie that’s three hours long. And for me, a movie like this lacks responsibility. The first chapter one film I could watch every October. But as far as this movie goes, I don’t know if this is something I could watch over and over for years to come. Now, since I gave it Chapter one, A, B plus two years ago, I’m going to give it Chapter two, a C plus.

Calm down, calm down. And by the way, a C plus isn’t a negative grade. It’s my lowest positive, but it’s still positive. I’d recommend going to check this movie out if you’re in the mood for a horror film that has a lot of levity and you’re a huge fan of it. Chapter one, I think you’ll enjoy this movie, but it’s definitely not as good as the first movie. Now, here’s my question for you. And let me know down below. What did you think about it? Chapter two or what is your most watchable horror film that you can watch every year over and over? Also, let me know that down below and before I go, big things to serve shark VPN for sponsoring this video because YouTube pays me with chewed up bubble gum and stale popcorn. Now, if you don’t know what a VPN is, it allows you to secure your data when you’re cruising the Internet on Wi-Fi at a gym or a hotel or just anywhere in public. And it also allows you to avoid Internet censorship. So if there’s a website that you want to check out that’s prohibited in the United States, well, guess what? With a VPN, you can do that. For example, if I want to watch the UK version of Netflix, I can do that here in the United States.

Or if I go traveling to another country and I want to watch the U.S. version of Netflix, I can also do that. So, yeah, the best thing is it allows you access to geo restricted content so you can always enjoy your favorite websites or TV shows. And this is a true story. A few years back, I was at the gym using the gyms Wi-Fi and the next day I woke up and someone spent like three hundred dollars on some shoe store in South Korea with my credit card. I was very upset and had I been using a VPN at the time, that wouldn’t have happened. So that’s one of the best benefits about a VPN is the security that you get. So if you need a VPN that works and I highly recommend, definitely check out the link down below to serve Shahak VPN and enter in promo code flic for eighty three percent off and one extra month free. So if you need a VPN and you want to save some money, definitely check out the link below. As always guys, thanks for watching. Make sure you subscribe and check out the last few videos I made, which you can find here and here. There’s somewhere on the screen right now. Definitely check those out. It’s a good time, as always, guys, thanks for watching and I’ll see you next time.
