Full text transcript of movie review of Elysium

All right, guys, I’m going to do a quick review here of Elysium. Of course, it’s a movie by Neill Blomkamp. He did District nine, most famously, you know, of becoming director literally out of nothing, cast nobody actors in that movie and kind of made a name for himself. Now, depending on how much you like, District nine is totally going to depend on how much you like Elysium. It’s more in the same vein. Visually, it looks the same at the same color palette, same general look to the cities and everything. Now, this movie, whether you like him or not, Matt Damon, I like him as an actor, so I’m fine with this. Absolutely. I thought he did a great job. Now, a lot of people are giving this movie flak for, I guess, undertone. You know, America’s run down.

It takes place in L.A., but most of the, you know, language is Spanish. That’s you know, it’s a lot of these themes that seem to reoccur in movies that a lot of people hate, such as most of the day after tomorrow, where we have to skip Mexico and, you know, this whole racial thing and the border thing, if you can look over that, the movie is visually stunning. It’s absolutely beautiful. The story. This is where it’s going to get you or either fail you like Matt Damon, it’s a lot more than, OK, I’m going to get to see them and see all the other shit. That’s what I thought was going to be initially where to actually have a good plot. It’s layered on on top of this kind of story that takes you back to do a few flashbacks that we already know he gets. Obviously, you know, from the trailers, he gets hurt and he wants to get the Elysium. But there’s more to the story than that. The guy from what’s it from District nine? I can’t remember his name. You know, our hero from that movie is now the villain in this movie. And he does an absolutely phenomenal job selling the character of Kroger. Absolutely phenomenal. Just such a good actor, you know, coming from a role and, you know, pretty much a career that was nothing before District nine just really shows that this actor’s range, that he was completely amazing. Now, this movie, when it really came down to it, it worked for me. I felt emotionally connected to all the characters. Like I said, if you like District nine, you’re like this. You didn’t like District nine, you won’t like this. I think it’s that simple. And if you’re in the middle district, then you’re probably in the middle with this.

You know, there are a few things that I thought could have been done a little better, but obviously the cheaper budget movie. So I can’t really fault them on their budget and all that. I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. I highly recommend it so far for the year. It’s my it’s tied for number one with Pacific Rim for different reasons. I absolutely love the story in this. And I you know, I feel connected to their characters where and the visuals aren’t the most important thing. What the spectacle for Pacific Rim is the complete opposite. You don’t really connect with the characters, but the visuals. And, you know, just the spectacle was amazing. Oh, I absolutely loved it, though. Like I said, if you like hardcore science fiction, if you like, in a small undertone of the real world, it’s definitely worth seeing. I highly recommend it. I gave this one a nine point five out of ten, just like I did for, you know, Pacific Rim. I think it’s highly worth seeing.
