Full-text transcript of the Maze Runner: Death Cure review:

[00:00:09] Hello, Smallville, it’s your old pal, Mark. Well, when I’m not delivering newspapers in nineteen thirty, I am watching movies for your review of Pleasure and the Maze Runner franchise. You know, you’re going into the death care and you’re like, all right, this is the third movie. And I personally, I didn’t read the books or listen to them on audio. I remember watching the first one and being like this has a lot of potential. And the ending left me a little sour. Then the scorch trials, same kind of thing. And the ending was basically like, hey, make sure you come back for the third one. It just felt like they were setting up sequels. And I was like, what are we building towards here? And then the death gear comes out and it’s in January. I’m not that excited. And I got to tell you, holy crap, this movie, this is a good movie, man. This is a cool action movie. And I enjoyed the hell out of my time in the theater in Masrani. The death carriage clocks in at a beefy two hours and 20 minutes, which is too long. It’s the movie doesn’t need to be that long. And you really feel it dragged towards the last hour of the movie. But the way this thing kicks off, we get action sequence after action sequence.

[00:01:07] And I don’t remember a lot about the first maze runner or the scorch trials. Here’s what I knew is that we have this rogue band of people that are trying to survive against this dystopian power in the future, led by Dylan O’Brien and Barry Pepper, amongst others. And they’re on the outskirts and they’re trying to rescue as many kids as possible because this this power, the wicked, they’re looking for a cure for this zombie horde thing that is infecting a lot of people in the last known city. But they’re not going to get the cure to everybody. This is not everybody gets health insurance, especially not in this world. And so these guys are trying to get rid of the kids because they don’t like the you’re experimenting on them. We’re robbing trains in this movie. We’re going after huge buildings. We’re shooting rockets. We’re flying ships. We’re driving cars left and right. There’s people getting thrown through glass. There’s huge bazookas. There’s so much action in this movie. Dylan O’Brien, that kid went through a lot on this set. But the way that this movie ends up and combine that with his performance in American Assassin, this kid is a star. I think he’s going to be in a lot of great action movies to come. I think his best work is clearly in front of him, but he is just so captivating when he’s on the screen.

[00:02:16] It ain’t a one man show, though. Like I said, it’s always great to see Barry Pepper because it better. Can we get Barry Pepper now like an Oscar, but give him like an honorary Golden Globe or something. The guy is really good and it’s always fun to see him on screen. Couple of shout outs, other people to Thomas Browdy. Sang’s plays nude. When you see his face, you’ll recognize him. Shout out to Rosa Salazar. She plays Brenda in the movie. I think she’s really good when she’s on screen, coupled with Giancarlo Esposito, who you might know as Mr. Frank from Breaking Bad. Look, overall, this movie surprised me. And so I went into the theater just wanting to have a good time and I got so much great action. It’s the best action movie of the year so far. I mean, it’s we’re halfway through January, but I’ve seen action movies and this is the best one of the bunch. So the death cure. Wow. It’s a little too long. And some of the plot really starts to loosen up too much for my taste. Towards the end of the movie, I enjoyed the hell out of Masrani, the death care. So I’m going much higher than I thought I would for West Bawls film.

[00:03:14] The guy’s name was Ball. He directed all three maze runners. He set us up for sequel after sequel. It finally paid off with Masrani The Death Care. I’m going to go three point seven. That’s I just said that three point seven out of five schmoes for a Maze Runner movie. I know you’re going to be shocked. And some of you may even say that old Mark Ellis has lost it. Well, I had ninety years old, judging by how I dress. No comment right now. And let us know. Are you excited to see Maze Runner, the death keeper? I had somebody tweet me when I was in the theater and their maze runner fans. I don’t know if it’s a real Twitter account. I don’t know if it’s just one person, if it’s in their maze. Runner fans out there and they want to see this movie. I think you guys are going to be pleasantly surprised. Make sure you hit that like button, too, because I showed up to work. Thank you.
