But when the arrogant Russian mob prince, Iosef Tarasov, and his men pay Wick a rather unwelcome visit to rob him of his prized 1969 Mustang and his wife’s present, the legendary hitman will be forced to unearth his meticulously concealed identity. Blind with revenge, John will immediately unleash a carefully orchestrated maelstrom of destruction against the sophisticated kingpin, Viggo Tarasov, and his family, who are fully aware of his lethal capacity. Source: IMDBFull text transcript of the John Wick review:
John Wick is a new action movie with Keanu Reeves, and it’s about an ex hit man who was brought back into the fold out of retirement because some people take everything from him and he is out to get all of those mobsters one at a time and usually through a headshot of some kind. I’ve been a fan of Keanu Reeves forever and not just as an actor, but I see him in interviews and he seems like a really cool, humble down to earth gentleman. And I like that when an actor does not seem full of himself. And Keanu Reeves is one of those guys. And I was hearing a lot of positive buzz about John Wick. And that’s one of the things that really got me excited to see an action movie that I was hoping would be a really great one. John Wick is one of the best action movies of the year and quite possibly Keanu Reeves best performance. I’m serious. The stunts in this movie are absolutely mind blowing, and Keanu Reeves does quite a bit of them himself, which is such a great thing to see when you see a long take. And then you get to see that Keanu Reeves is doing some of these things involving driving fist fighting, gunplay, everything that you might imagine an action hero would have to do in a movie. He’s doing it in this one, and it’s directed by two veteran stuntman. Recently, the movie Left Behind was directed by Vic Armstrong, also a veteran stuntman from the Indiana Jones movies and such things like that.
A lot of respect for him for that. But as a director, these guys have proven that they can make a really slick looking movie with not just fantastic action scenes, but actually some really great dialogue scenes as well. Because Michael Nykvist, I did my best with that one. You may remember him from the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo or from Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol. He plays the main villain of this movie. And I thought he was absolutely terrific. All of the acting. This movie was actually really great. Not only is this Keanu Reeves best film since The Matrix, it might actually be his best performance because there are a lot of scenes in this movie that require a lot out of an actor. And I’m not just talking about stunt work. He has some very emotional scenes in this movie, ones that involve a lot of anger and despair. And he does a very great job with all of them. I was very impressed with his work in this movie. Just in case you haven’t seen the trailer, I will not spoil why he gets upset. But when I saw the trailer, I was like, Really? That’s the motivation. But it works in the movie. Trust me, it absolutely works in the movie. And you understand exactly where he’s coming from. And it’s perfect. It honestly is the perfect reason for him to go on this bloody path that he does. It just makes sense. One of the things I really liked about John Wick that surprised me a lot is that it’s not just a revenge action.
Shoot him up. There’s actually a lot of interesting world creation going on in this movie. You learn a lot about this underworld of criminals, and it’s like this entire franchise just waiting to happen. And it’s actually one of those things that sets up the idea of sequels without being incredibly force, like in the Maze Runner earlier this year, where there was like a few sentences at the end that basically went. And there’s going to be another one. By the way, there isn’t anything like that in John Wick. It’s the kind of movie that you see immense potential with in regards to a franchise. And I would love to see a sequel to this movie. The action in the film is virtually unrelenting. Once it starts. There are incredible shootout sequences, fantastic hand-to-hand combat sequences. And the greatest thing is you can see Keanu Reeves face like during the majority of all of it, because this guy is an actor who respects his audience in regards to action movies. I mean, remember all the stunts he did in speed and of course, all three Matrix movies. This guy knows how to sell action. It’s a non-stop action movie that doesn’t let up, that actually has a smart script, a really awesome hero, a great villain, a few great villains, actually. And I got to say, this movie contains the best nightclub scene since Collateral 10 years ago. I’m being honest. The best thing in the whole movie, in my opinion, by the end of it, my mouth was kind of dropped a little bit.
And I was just like, this is crazy good action. It’s just so nice to see some directors who understand the action world so well, but they’re actually able to make it look really swift, really sleek, appealing, and get a star who can sell the role. But I got to stress, this isn’t just a really good action movie. There’s actually a lot of really great underworld crime, world building going on with some really intense conversations. And Keanu Reeves and all the actors in this movie, even John Leguizamo was really good and I generally am not a big fan of his in regards to problems with John Wick. They’re very few and far between the ending of the movie. And what I mean is like the literal last scene feels a little bit tacked on. It feels a little bit forced some of the way that that included felt a little bit sloppy and a little bit put together really fast. That’s it. John Wick is one of the best action movies of the year. It’s Keanu Reeves best film since The Matrix, and it might actually be his best performance, in my opinion. I love the movie and I’m going to give it an A.. I think when you judge it simply as an action film, this movie does everything it’s supposed to do. Is it groundbreaking? Is it mind blowing? No, it’s an action film that understands exactly what it’s doing and it does it extremely well. Guys, I implore you, please go see John Wick.
I don’t want another edge of tomorrow on our hands. I don’t want a movie that is so ripe with possibilities and so good at what it’s trying to do that disappoints at the box office. If you guys go and see John Wick, I genuinely think we. Might actually get a great school out of this and possibly a really cool new action franchise.
