Full text transcript of Deadpool 2 film review

I’m okay with the first Deadpool movie. I’m not a huge fan, but considering what it took to get that movie made, the budget limitations and the way I bloody twisted the genre on its head. Well, you know, some of the times, it’s a really impressive achievement. That movie, though, obviously it did a lot of right things with audiences and critics even becoming the biggest R rated movie of all time, bigger than the previous one, which was that film about watching Jesus being beat up for nine hours, which I haven’t seen yet, but it’s very popular. So I’m told, as it was at the time of Serevent, Deadpool two for me, does all the things you’d expect from a sequel of its nature, more gags, more action, more CGI characters and more references than a man in a red suit compresses balls in.

To this time around, Deadpool sets out to protect a Teenage Mutant Ninja Boy neglected by the system, who also has a target on his head, courtesy of a time travelling cable sent back from the future to right the wrongs levelled against him. The manner in which this story kicks off feels a little early. They’re doing this trope and ironically now I can’t get into the specifics of that, but it does feel lazy. But it’s from that that we get a bit of a bloody fun ride in what I think is a slightly better film than the previous four one. Despite the humor not always landing, I felt more jokes hit the mark than last time around. There’s much less look at my balls humor than the last one, except for one very specific and very graphic look at my balls joke.

But on the whole, I would say this more hits the misses in particular when it comes to taking shots at other comic book movie universes and films in general. And there’s also some very deep comic book cuts that I’m sure a lot of people will appreciate. I mean, they put fucking ShadowStats on the roster. It’s incredible. The new inclusions to the cast are also good and the casting for both cable and Domino is absolutely spot on. Plus, there’s the inclusion of one very comic accurate villain. That was a really great addition. It was also nice to see both Negga, Sonic, Teenage Warhead and Colossus back in the game, expanding on the characters from last time. Even TJ Miller is good, which pains me to say because he seems like a real bad bloke in real life, but apparently he’s not coming back. Everyone is also on board with the ridiculousness of this film, which kept me engaged for the most part. The budget is also clearly increased, as mentioned, and the money has been well spent. The action set pieces. One chase in particular is a solid step up from the last movie. It’s definitely a bigger film, but that’s not at the expense of what worked in the first place. Also, this movie is surprisingly emotional in parts, mostly towards the end and the way that the first movie wasn’t. And these moments, they’re not really undercut by somebody making a I off fighting unicorn joke or something akin to that, which genuinely surprised me, the restraint that they showed there.

Now, I wouldn’t go as far to say Deadpool two is fantastic. I’m leaning closer to yeah, you know, it’s pretty good, but it doesn’t feel like something I feel the need to revisit anytime soon. But if you loved the first Deadpool, I think you’ll be more than happy about how this turned out. And if you didn’t love it for reasons similar to why I didn’t, then this one does make some small improvements. I’d also be willing to check out another one of these or an X Force movie simply for this franchise’s willingness to include more and more obscure and ridiculous characters from the X-Men universe. There is no doubt in my mind that will be getting more of these movies. Even with the Disney Murgia, they would be absolutely mad not to capitalize on the popularity of this character, but it is it. What did you think? And if you like Deadpool, we’ve done a weekly planet commentary for the first film, which is out now, My Patreon, soon to be followed by this week’s Caravana Garbage that looks at a really terrific Deadpool story from a few years back. And also this weekend, there’s going to be a huge Deadpool two Easter egg video because this film is just there’s so many. My week is going to be a nightmare. But please subscribe and balcon icon if you’d like to see any of that and also more stuff. But regardless, I appreciate you watching this. Take care.
